Saturday’s 2A Girls Tennis: Centralia Nabs Sub-District Singles, Doubles Titles

OLYMPIA — Centralia had the champion in both the singles and doubles brackets here Saturday as the Evergreen 2A Conference sub-district girls tennis tournament concluded at Steamboat Island Tennis Center.

Ellie Corwin and Hannah Jeffries beat Tumwater’s Nicole Howard and Mikayla Key, 6-2, 6-1, to cap an undefeated run through the doubles bracket.

W.F. West’s Megan Wilks and Mya Davis, meanwhile, beat Black Hills’ Selina Ryser and Abby Calvert, 7-5, 6-4 in the third-place match, though both teams advance to the District 4 tournament.

Centralia’s Carissa Kaut and Abbie Hopkins beat W.F. West’s Morgan Lakey and Lexi Akins, 7-6, 4-6, 6-3 for fifth place, which serves as an alternate to the district tournament.

In singles action, Rachel Wilkerson beat W.F. West’s Sydney Cameron, 6-2, 6-3, in the finals, and Black Hills’ Hope Johnston defeated Aberdeen’s Aleen Pratt, 6-1, 6-4 in the third-place match.

Tumwater’s Shelby Liston beat Centralia’s Taviana Keahey, 6-4, 6-2, in the fifth-place match for an alternate spot.

The District 4 2A Girls Tennis Tournament starts Friday, May 19.
