Friday’s College Baseball: Pierce Sweeps Twinbill With Blazers

TACOMA — The Trailblazers came up short in a pair of NWAC West Region baseball games here Friday, falling to Pierce 8-3 and 5-1 at Mt. Tahoma High School.

Pierce made the most of its 10 hits in Game 1 to win 8-3, with Matt Scheffler going 2 for 4 with four RBIs and a three-run homer in the fifth inning.

Mitch Johnson hit a double and drove in a run for Centralia, while Dimitri Sakellariou went 2 for 4. Josh Muneno and Gabe Farrer both drove in runs for the Blazers.

Pierce’s Tyson Cronin worked a complete game in the nightcap, striking out and walking one with four hits and a single earned run.

John Sharkey took the loss for Centralia, giving up four hits and three earned runs with three strikeouts and three walks in five innings.

Taylor Mondina went 2 for 3 for Centralia, while Johnson and Trevor Zimmerman each added hits.

Centralia (9-32, 8-15 league) is scheduled to host Pierce in a 1 p.m. doubleheader at Ed Wheeler Field on Saturday.
