Tuesday’s 2B Softball: Winlock Defeats Kalama to Earn District Spot
By The Chronicle
WINLOCK — Winlock’s Karlie Jones hit a walkoff home run in the bottom of the seventh to help the Cardinals earn a 4-3 win over Kalama in a Central 2B League softball game here on Tuesday.
With the win, Winlock secured the final District 4 playoff spot from the C2BL and open tournament play on May 15.
“It’s so good, I’d say about six or seven games back, I’d say I was optimistic with who we play,” Winlock coach Chantel Nelson said. “Having to finish with a tiebreaker, it felt good, even if we lost. We played a great game to do so, and to win in the bottom of the seventh, to have that as our way into districts was really nice also.”
Cheleena Squibb also had a home run for the Cardinals.
Jenna Jones pitched a complete game for Winlock, allowing six hits while striking out eight batters.
Kalama scored two runs in the first inning, but Winlock scored in the second to cut the lead to 2-1. The Chinooks added a run in the third, but Winlock answered once again with two runs in the fourth to tie the game.
Neither team was able to score until Jones’ homer in the seventh.
Winlock finished the regular season 5-15 overall and 3-15 in C2BL play.
