Thursday’s 1A Baseball: Beavers Clinch Second With Win Over Forks
By The Chronicle
FORKS — Tenino went to work early here Thursday to dump Forks, 12-2, and wrap up second place in the final 1A Evergreen League baseball standings.
The win puts Tenino (7-9, 6-6 league) in a first-round District 4 1A Baseball Tournament game against La Center (7-9, 6-6) on Monday at 4 p.m. in Rochester.
Tenino pounded out eight hits to go with four walks in the first inning to push across 10 runs in what turned out to be a five-inning game, coming off of a 7-3 loss to Forks on Tuesday.
“It was just good in a sense that Tuesday we were really undisciplined at the plate,” Tenino coach Conner Hogue said. “And go over to Thursday, and we really changed our approach and battled to get our pitch.”
Coulson Chambers went 3 for 3 with three RBIs, and Jace Griffis was 2 for 3, drove in two runs and scored three times for Tenino.
Starter Miles Cannon worked four innings, striking out four and allowing two runs.
“He had a lot of fly-ball outs, and just threw a ton of strikes,” Hogue said.
The Beavers won last year’s District 4 tournament, beating league champion and eventual state runner-up Hoquiam in the finals.
“We feel good, because we’re there, and we learned from last year that anything can happen,” Hogue said. “Anybody who’s hot can rattle off a few wins. We’re just excited to play.”
