Friday’s 2A Baseball: Centralia Edges Tumwater
By The Chronicle
Centralia and Tumwater battled it out in an Evergreen 2A Conference regular season finale, with the Tigers earning a 2-1 win at Ed Wheeler Field on Friday.
Centralia scored a run in the fourth inning to take the lead, and added a run on an error in the sixth inning.
Tumwater had runners at first and second in the top of the seventh, and a ground ball came to the Tigers’ third baseman, who couldn’t make the throw, allowing the runner on second to score. Centralia, though, threw out the runner from first as he tried to score to end the game.
The two teams combined to use 10 pitchers, who allowed nine total hits in the game.
“Both teams were basically just getting ready for next week. It’s how both teams aligned their pitching,” Centralia coach Rex Ashmore said. “I thought defensively, we played very well. We turned three double plays to get out of some innings.”
Centralia (8-6, 7-6 league) opens the District 4 2A Tournament on Tuesday against Greater St. Helens 2A League champion Hockinson at 4:30 p.m. at Clark College.
