Wednesday’s 2B Softball: PWV Seniors Star in Sweep of Rainier
PE ELL — The three seniors in the starting lineup notched home runs in Game 1, and Pe Ell-Willapa Valley kept its record flawless with a 15-0, 15-0 sweep of Rainier here Wednesday in Central 2B League softball action.
Senior Railey Smith hit a bases-loaded inside the park home run and drove in five runs, senior Abby Hodel hit an inside the park homer, and senior Dakota Brooks was 2 for 3 with a traditional homer.
Brooks and freshman Katie Adkins combined to toss a three-inning no hitter with five strikeouts, and Sid Pollard was 3 for 3 with two RBIs.
“It’s just another all-around solid effort. We just kind of plugged away,” PWV coach Ken Olson said. “We continue to hit the ball pretty well and we’re playing good defense, and the pitchers are throwing well.”
Game 2 was more of the same. Pollard went 2 for 3 with a double, a triple and two RBIs; Brooks was 2 for 3 with a pair of doubles and an RBI; Grace Hodel was 2 for 2 with a double and a triple; and freshman Presley Peterson hit a triple and drove in two runs.
Olson credited Rainier for their effort.
“They stayed with it,” Olson said, “and it was kind of tough. He had five starters out to start the game, and they were using some younger kids.”
The Titans (14-0, all league games) honored seniors Brooks, Smith, Hodel and Danielle McCarty at the game, and will play at Napavine in a Central 2B League doubleheader on Wednesday.
