Saturday’s 2A Baseball: Tigers Hold Off Rochester 7-4
ROCHESTER — Noah Thomas had a big hit in the fifth inning, and Centralia’s defense came up in key spots to help the Tigers to a 7-4 Evergreen 2A Conference win over Rochester here Saturday.
Thomas hit a two-out, two-strike, two-run double to highlight the Tigers’ three-run fifth inning, and drove in a run with a two-out single in the seventh inning as well.
Defensively, left fielder Joseph Pineda doubled up a runner at second base in the first inning, and Centralia turned a double play in the third frame.
“It was a very clean baseball game for us,” Centralia coach Rex Ashmore said. “It was nice to get out and play on a sunny day for once, and both teams were very focused and into it.”
Broc Selstrom went 3 for 3 with a pair of RBIs, and worked over six innings on the mound, striking out three and walking one to get the win.
“He was around the plate the entire day, but Rochester swung the bats very well,” Ashmore said. “If we don’t play as well as we did defensively it’s probably a different outcome.”
Rylee Sommer, Aaron Huff and Ethan Worden each had two hits for Rochester, with Worden adding an RBI.
Centralia (5-1, 4-1 league) hosts Montesano Monday in a nonleague game. Rochester (1-6, 0-5 league) hosts W.F. West on Monday.
