CC Baseball: Blazers Beat Shoreline for First Win
Centralia plated four runs in the first inning and never looked back on Thursday, beating Shoreline 7-3 in the first half of a nonleague NWAC baseball contest at Ed Wheeler Field. The Dolphins, however, rallied late to win the nightcap by a 7-5 margin.
Taylor Mondina went 2 for 3 and drove in a pair of runs, while Eric Fich was 2 for 4 with an RBI. Jordan Martinez added two hits and scored twice in the opener.
Martinez led off the bottom of the first inning with a base hit and, after a walk, scored on a hit from Mondina. Mitch Johnson drove in another run with a hit, Mondina scored on an error, and Christian Lopez brought in a run with a sacrifice fly to stake the Blazers a 4-1 lead.
Fich drove in a run with a single in the third inning.
John Sharkey got the win, working the first four innings and allowing one earned run on six hits and four walks. Connor Davis took over in the fifth, also giving up an unearned run with a walk and a strikeout. Johnson retired the final two batters on eight pitches to close things out.
Shoreline scored three in the top of the seventh inning to erase the Blazers’ 5-4 lead in Game 2, then got a strikeout and two ground-ball outs in the bottom of the seventh to leave Centralia with a split.
Fich went 2 for 3 and drove in two runs, while Martinez added a pair of RBIs. Brady Woodrum also knocked in a run for Centralia.
The Blazers (1-15) host Lane on Friday in a 1 p.m. doubleheader.
