Saturday Update: Basketball Results
There’s lots of stuff going on Saturday in the Lewis County sports scene. Here’s a quick recap of what happened, and we’ll have stories and more posted as the night goes on.
In District 4 2A boys action, Centralia got 26 points from Hodges Bailey and 14 from Tyler Ashmore to beat Columbia River 65-54. It was one of a series of interesting district games Saturday night; W.F. West nearly pulled off an upset of Greater St. Helens 2A League champion Mark Morris, losing 66-62, while Evergreen 2A Conference champion Tumwater was upset by R.A. Long, 54-51. Woodland beat Black Hills, 57-42, in the other game. On Tuesday night in the district semifinals, Centralia plays Mark Morris at 7 p.m. in Chehalis and Woodland plays R.A. Long at 7 p.m. at Mark Morris. The Bearcats plays Columbia River at 6 p.m. in Centralia, followed by Black Hills and Tumwater in a loser-out rivalry game at 7:45 p.m.
In District 4 2B boys quarterfinal game, Napavine overcame a 38-30 halftime deficit to beat Kalama 65-61 and stay undefeated; Toledo held off rival Winlock for the third time, 54-46; Adna beat Chief Leschi, 69-54; and top-ranked Life Christian beat Toutle Lake 68-48. Wednesday’s district semifinals — all of whom have already sealed regional spots — feature Napavine vs. Toledo at 6:30 p.m. and Adna vs. Life Christian at 8 p.m., with both games in Tumwater. Monday’s loser-out games in Tumwater are Chief Leschi vs. Raymond at 6:30 p.m. and Ilwaco vs. Toutle Lake at 8 p.m., and Kalama vs. Ocosta at 6:30 p.m. and Rainier vs. Winlock at 8 p.m. at Black Hills.
Ilwaco topped Adna, 57-43, in one District 4 2B quarterfinal and Napavine hammered Pacific 2B League co-champion Raymond 47-25 in another. Kalama beat Life Christian, 80-36, and Wahkiakum beat North Beach, 77-48. Tuesday’s semifinals at Tumwater include Wahkiakum vs. Ilwaco at 6:30 p.m. and Kalama vs. Napavine at 8 p.m., while in loser-out action on Monday Toutle Lake plays Life Christian at 6:30 and Onalaska plays Raymond at 8 p.m. In Montesano, Mossyrock plays North Beach at 6:30 p.m. and Ocosta plays Adna at 8 p.m.
W.F. West won the 2A Region I tournament in Ridgefield in dominant fashion, scoring 213.5 team points to easily edge second-place Tumwater (131).
Girls, Region III Tournament at Aberdeen: Winlock’s Hannah Randall won a regional title in the 140-pound weight class, winning all three of her matches by pin with a 42-second fall over Union’s Krista Warren in the finals.
Centralia’s Sam Teitzel finished third at 125, Napavine’s Kaitlyn Bornstien finished third at 135, W.F. West’s Jade Palmer finished fourth at 140, and Centralia’s Sidnee Arcury was second at 145.
